Details

With a slight edge over the original PowerMax Plus, the KIT 2 PowerMax Wireless Alarm Kit is a very affordable and very advanced home monitoring system, created for the do-it-yourself home owner ready to knit a warm blanket of protection over their property and loved ones. Great for homes, apartments, condos and small offices, this durable home security system is the best starter kit for defense against theft and fire.

Keypad

The keypad is your command center. It houses all of your settings along with the control panel and siren. How will you know if your alarm has been triggered? This kit allows you to choose if you want an outside alarm company monitoring your home or if you'd prefer to have activity sent directly to you via cell phone, pager or email- or both! If you hire an alarm monitoring organization, the keypad incorporates hands free 2-way voice communication for constant connection between you and them. That means full-time security, 24/7!

Want to arm/disarm your system while you're at work? No problem. Through an internet connection, you can control your alarm system with a few clicks. With the home automation feature, you can also turn on lights and appliances in your home while you're away. Built-in X10 support allows you to activate 15 electronic devices via internet connection.

New Accessories

The big difference between the original PowerMax Plus and the new Kit 2 is the added alarm accessories. This kit includes 3 door and window contacts, a pet immune motion detector and 2 key fobs! For families, these added features make monitoring so much easier and effective - it's no wonder why this is one of the most popular and recommended alarm systems available today.

Zones

With these accessories, you get 28 wireless zones of monitoring and 2 hardwired zones. We suggest this product homes, apartments and small offices because that's a perfect amount of coverage for these properties.

  • Full compliance with international standards and regulations.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the major difference between the Powermax Plus and Powermax Plus Kit2?
The only significant difference between the two Powermax Kits is that the Powermax Plus Kit 2 includes an extra sensor and keyfob.

How loud is 85 DB
85 decibels sounds about as loud as an alarm clock.

What is the range of the keyfob?
The keyfob has a reported range of up to 150 feet.

What does "hardwired zones" mean?
This means that non-wireless accessories including sensors, keypads and sirens can be attached to and used with your Powermax Plus Kit2.

Is there a code I can input to alert the police of an emergency without a potential intruder knowing I've done so?
Yes, this is known as latchkey. The feature is also frequently used to inform parents of a child's arrival to the home.

What is private number dialed?
If you have your system programmed to latchkey mode, the PowerMax Plus Kit2 is able to deliver a message to any number, including private numbers, when the system is disarmed by a "latchkey user."

What does two way voice mean?
Two-way voice communication allows you to communicate with people present in your household through the Powermax Plus Kit2 by simply dialing into the system using an outside phone. Unlike regular telephone conversations, in which you can interject a few words while the other party speaks, this system allows one way speech at a time.

Great system! Installing takes a little bit a learning, but once you understand how to navigate the setup menu its a breeze. I love that you can program multiple phone numbers to alert if the alarm is tripped. You can set it to call your cell phone, a friend, and/or the local police. If your robbed and can't get to your phone to call the cops for whatever reason the system will do it for you, without having to pay $40 a month for monitoring. (Posted on 8/10/13)

I have had this system for 3 years. unlike most I bought a security system before my house got broken into. At the same time a buddy of mine bought the same one. He loves his too. I remember when I first bought it, it was so easy to setup. ALl components are wireless and I was able to set it all up on the coffee table while watching the dvd. then go around the house and double side tape everything up. I yet have had to change batteries in three years, my buddy has. I just bought another wireless motion detector for the motor home, outside siren and one new keyfob. We have a cat and have never had any false calls. ok so I don't have a home phone. Through one of the calling card companies i found a card that was one hundered dollars. This puts you in the plantuim group. So the minutes roll over each year for adding dollars to the card. It awesome. I have spent 30 dollars in three years to have this baby online. Thats what most people spend in one month. I recommend this to everyone i talk to. Problem is once someones house gets broken into. Which happens a lot where I live. They panic and go with one of the companies that charge 30 a month. (Posted on 7/3/13)

I have had the system for two and a half years now and it works fine. I have the outside siren/strobe and five motion sensors. along with switch contacts at key locations. I also connected the X10 interface which flashes all the exterior lights and some interior lights. Lots of noise and lights. The neighbors know and call the cops. I do plan to go to central station in the future. The only draw back is the phone interface. The system would be perfect if there were an interface to cell phones to do everything from panels after entering a security code. (Posted on 2/14/13)

I have had my system for a year now and it works great. The initial setup was a bit tedious but got through it. Just wish there was an app for my android that would help with the dial-up functions. When the alarm goes off at 3AM and you are attempting to fix the issue it is hard since it is only an occasional use of this function, remembering the codes and sequences to check status. I will, in the future, setup the central station feature. (Posted on 12/9/11)

This is a followup to a review I wrote in September. After having my Powermax installed for about a month I had a problem with the unit that I could not resolve. I called the Store Support Line and after a 10 minute wait I was connected to Jeffery, one of the techs. He was excellent. Many online stores say they will provide tech support for their products and more times than not the support is lousy. This is not the case for the Home Security Store. Jeffery was very patient and knowledgeable as he helped me to identify and fix the problem with the system. I was probably on the phone with him for an hour but we finally fixed the problem. I could not be happier with the support I got and highly recommend the store for your security needs. (Posted on 10/2/11)

I purchased the Powermax+ a couple of weeks ago and recently installed it. I am 68 and have average skills with computers and electronics. I have never installed a security system before this installation.

After recieving the package in the mail I read the Installer's Instruction Manual and got very little from it. When I purchased the Powermax+ I was greatly influenced by the fact that the package contained an Instructional Video to help with the installation. I started watching it and was pleased to see that it was designed to take the novice installer, like me, through the installation process, step by step.

By following the video it took me about 4 hours to get the system "setup" on my card table. The instructions tell you to completely setup the Powermax and all its components before actually installing them in their respected locations.

This setup process did not go without problems. The video helped a lot but does not provide a lot of help in resolving problems. The installer's book was of little help in this area also. I was able to get the additional help I needed to resolve my issues by going online and looking at other Powermax Installers Manuals. I never had to call the Home Security Store.

The installation of the components in my house took about 6 hours.

After the complete installation the System is working as it should, but it has only been online for a few days.

I do recommend the Powermax+ with the Installation Video. I know I would not have been able to install the system without it unless I recieved a lot of help from the store staff.

I rated the Powermax+ four stars instead of five because the manuals are written for people who are either professional installers or a lot smarter than me. The authers simply ommit information with no explanation of what terms mean. Yet the installer needs this information to make decisions. (Posted on 9/4/11)

I have had this system in place for three years now. It was easy to install and programming was not too difficult but took some time. The door monitors, motion senor and key fobs have all worked perfectly. I have had to change one battery in one door sensor. There was an earlier review about someone with a door sensor out and not being able to set the alarm because of that - that person is wrong, there are several ways to overide that. The ability to expand this system into nearly full home automation is phenomenal. I have not yet done this as some of the accessories are expensive. I would recommend this system to anyone in the market. (Posted on 1/20/11)

Highly recommend. It was very easy to install and I love the flexibility to modify, expand and control my system verus using the other contract services and being limited to their packages. I love the ability to add and expand my system at my choosing. It is an excellent system and has worked flawless. The x-10 home automation is a little more challenging but, it will work with a little time on setting up. The DVD is very helpful. I have many neighbors ask why I went with Home Security Store versus the typically contract services. Once I show them what I got, it's ease of installation and the cost for monitoring, they can see through overall cost is much better. (Posted on 11/30/10)

At first I was a little overwhelmed looking at the user installation manual, but once I started watching the DVD instructions and going step by step, it was super easy. I really do not do well reading instructions but the watching the DVD and being able to pause it and then do a step, wow, I was amazed at the ease. It is a great system. I had trouble getting my phone line cleared to allow the system to dial out, contacted tech support for assistance, they were very respondent and right on the mark!! I called once and was on hold for a bit but emailing was a better route and besides, then I could print the instructions out and take it near the base unit to follow step by step. Would recommend to everyone both the product and the Home Security Store for the purchase. Thanks alot!! (Posted on 11/12/10)

What an excellent company to help dodge the 50/month traditional alarm system, and their association with alarmrelay.com. I chose this model on the recommendation of alarmrelay.com because the gsm module (cell phone back up) can be used without higher monitoring fees. The people at Alarmrelay are AMAZING about helping you get activated--stayed on the phone with me for over 20 minutes and helped me work out my own phone line problems--I couldn't believe it. Got me up and monitored so I could go out of town for the weekend and relax. Sadly I had to pay dearly for 2 day shipping (really?!) but the system arrived with all the door monitors and motion detector already programmed into the system. The DVD for set up was awesome, I watched it a few times and may start buttoning my top button :-) Homesecuritystore.com has very good phone support, answered pretty quickly and were sincere in directing me to their forums for the best information and advice. It's too bad the GSM module went out of stock days after I got my system, and that the availability date has been pushed back already. Without it there's not much point to choosing this system. I've felt very good about the purchase of the system until yesterday. It installed simply, probably taking 4 hours from start to finish with installing the hardware and programming. I self monitor the system and it calls immediately upon being set off. I do wish the door contacts were a bit smaller and yesterday the front door contact went out. The battery is still good but it won't recognize that the door is closed so I can't turn on the rest of the alarm until I figure out how to program that one door out of the system. It is still under warranty and I will be sending the door contact in, but I don't live in a very safe neighborhood and now have concerns about the next week where shipping of the parts is going to effectively leave my house without an alarm. My system is about 2 months old. (Posted on 9/19/10)

Great system for the price. The DVD video is extremely easy to follow. Has up to 8 codes (for when you forget or if the spouse does). Additional items are fairly priced also. Comes with 2 keychains which make it easier to arm and disarm. Have powerhorn set up with the AUX button to wake the kids up for school! Didn't use any mounting hardware for the wireless sensors, mounted all items except console with double sided heavy duty tape. Might need a helping hand when programming the sensors makes it easier. Just needed a loud alarm to warn robbers (and nosy neighbors) that me and my family are protected. Hoping to purchase security cameras soon. PS. Very good tracking when shipping, would suggest when ordering to make sure to get the "sign on delivery" so that the UPS man doesn't leave the package on your front door for someone to steal. I have a 1350sq foot one story home and I am so pleased with the Powermax Plus that I am ordering more accessories. The only thing that stopped me from giving the system 4 stars is the motion detector. It does not work consistently. I am not even going to include it with my system. I’ve read other reviews about how difficult it was to set up the system, but I’m not sure if those reviewers had the instructional DVD. The DVD shows you how to set up all the basics and all of the accessories that came with it were already pre-enrolled. The only thing I had to enroll was the smoke detector and that took about 2 minutes. I had the whole system up and running in about 30 minutes. It took about 45 minutes to place the sensors around my home. When I did a test I was very pleased. Once the alarm was activated, the system called my cell phone immediately. The alarm was also very loud and could be heard throughout the entire house. (Posted on 10/4/09)

In the end, the basic $240 Powermax+Kit2 DIY fit my needs/desires. I did opt to include upgrades for additional W/L sensors.

As others have stated, the Instruction Manual leaves a lot to be desired but can be deciphered by a handy DIY homeowner that has a bit of technical know how. One aspect that took me a while to realize is that, like the info for the code number for the types of zones, the 28 pre-programed zone names (Living Room etc) correspond to the numerical name list order... 1=Attic; 2=Back Door etc The manual failed to annotate the number to the zone name.

The two W/L motion detectors cover a large area and most all of my hall such that it offers backup coverage if a perimeter zone is breached without detection. After 2-weeks of self monitoring with our pet cat freely roaming, not one alarm -- yet its now a game for us to see the LEDs light up when we walk around.

Installed a W/L mag contact on the backyard shed door and it still has a strong signal at ~100' away to the main panel in a hall closet. in the middle of the house. Overall, I now have monitored--
7-windows; garage ovhd door (door contact tape mounted on screw drive slider); 3-doors; glass slider door; two W/L motion detectors; W/L Stand Alone keypad for the MBR; siren indoors w/hardwired strobe & separate siren on front porch and W/L smoke detector. With standalone glass break sensor alarms, total equipment ~$1K. Used dbl-sided tape for contacts-works great

Just finished completing contract via fax/phone with Alarm Relay- Even easier with their call programming the system via phone down load-w/monitoring of the W/L smoke detector, qualifies for 20% off home ins --Highly recommend-Powermax+Kit2; Home Security Store; Alarm Relay (Posted on 10/19/07)

First, let me say the instruction books were a little tough to follow. You must read them very carefully. After several attempts to program the transmitters, I called the tech. staff and they walked me through it with total success! This unit has all the bells and whistles one could expect from high-end security systems. customizing settings to fit your needs is a Breeze. overall I am very pleased with this unit, and the tech. staff is unmatched anywhere! The only downfall I can see is battery replacement. batteries range in price from $8.00 - $12.00 each, but thats a far cry from replacing your stolen posessions! (Posted on 10/16/07)

Just finished my installation and find that the unit works as advertised. I am very happy with the system, will probly use only 50% of it's capablities. Will now add fire detection and an outside siren and light. Any problems that I had setting up the system was handled effortlessly by the techs. (Posted on 10/3/07)
