Meh! Would be better if it worked!Review by RockNRev

So today I had my third (technically forth) of these water sensors installed. The first one killed the new battery within 8 hours and would not work again after that. The replacement lasted 2 weeks and then suddenly killed the battery and like the first one, would not work again after that. The tech broke the board on the third one trying to get it into the housing. Luckily he had another on the truck and just finished installing it.

The thing works great when it is operational, but I wonder if these units have a defect. Seems like something on the RF board goes followed by the rapid battery drain and ultimate death of the unit. Units cannot be reset for pairing after the sudden battery drain issue. Green light on RF never lights up again no matter what you do. Crossing my fingers on this 4th unit. (Posted on 10/3/14)

I installed this detector and got a small cup of water from our water dispenser for testing. It didn't work. Then it occured to me that the water dispenser was distilled water which does not conduct. I used tap water (well water - good conductivity) and it worked fine. Flood water will have high conductivity. (Posted on 6/5/11)

I was little hesitant after reading so so reviews but I ordered it anyway and it passed the initial testing that I performed. I took the sensor and dipped it in the water and it had no triggering the alarm. I still plan to do more tests for reliability over time and hope it will work without any issues. (Posted on 12/27/10)

I have purchased two MCT-550's and neither would work out of the box after attaching the sensor cable to the wireless unit and putting the sensor in water. I was able to use the same method to get them operational. With the unit open, take a paper clip or pair of scissors (or anything else that can conduct) and bridge the two little flat head screws on the blue housing that clamps down on the wires to the sensor. Basically you are simulating a closed circuit in the sensor and the LED should blink 3 times indicating a flood has been detected. It will also blink when you remove the unit from the screws indicating the alarm restor. Once that is done try the sensor in water. For me, the sensor detects the water condition every time it's submerged. (Posted on 12/8/10)
