A driveway alarm can be that extra layer of home security that you need. Even if you already have an alarm system in place, a driveway alarm protects the parameter of your home and will instantly warn you of unwanted intruders. On the other hand, a driveway alarm can give you that extra time you need to greet a guest or to answer the door.

The weatherproof transmitter operates on one 9-volt battery and is easily mounted on a tree or post near the driveway. The transmitter uses an infrared beam to detect people or vehicles to a distance of up to 80 feet. The transmitter then sends a radio signal back to the receiver, which can be placed in your home up to 600 feet away. With additional transmitters up to four zones can be monitored. The transmitters can be programmed so they will each sound a different tone at the receiver.

The receiver plugs into a standard wall outlet and can be placed on a table or mounted on a wall. When the receiver gets a signal one of four different tones will sound for a few seconds. Your choices are classical, a Westminster chime, a ding dong, or a whistle. You can add accessories also such as a wireless receiver remote or an extra transmitter.

The WMA–3000 is not only useful for driveways, but can guard over any spot where you think an intruder or vandal might be. For instance, the driveway alarm can warn you if someone is approaching behind the house or even alert you if someone is near your pool. The device can be installed almost anywhere - along the door, display cabinets, and even house paths and passages.

The WMA-3000 includes the WR-3000 receiver and the WMAT-3000 transmitter:

Receiver
The WR-3000 receiver can be used with any of the Dakota Alert 3000 series transmitters (WMT-3000, WPT-3000, WHT-3000). The WR-3000 plugs in to a standard wall outlet and can be placed on a table or mounted on the wall. When the receiver gets a signal from the transmitter one of 4 different tones (Classical , Westminster Chime, Ding Dong, Whistle) will sound for a few seconds. There is also a volume control so you can set the sound to the desired level. The receiver is also equipped with 4 form “C” relays (one for each zone) and one 12 VDC output terminal that will activate for several seconds when a signal is received. The receiver can be user programmed so the 12VDC terminal and one relay will activate for 10 minutes if this is desired. The tones will still sound for several seconds.

Transmitter
The WMT-3000 transmitter is used with the Dakota Alert WR-3000 receiver. The WMT-3000 transmitter uses a passive infrared (PIR) detector to detect people, vehicles or large animals at the monitored location. When the transmitter detects an object, it will send a signal to the receiver, which will sound one of four different tones (Classical, Westminster Chime, Ding Dong, or Whistle) for a few seconds. The transmitter can be used as a driveway alarm, or in the back yard to monitor around tool sheds or patios.

I purchased this product almost a year ago. I also purchased the birdhouse cover. I haven't had any problem at all. I've only replaced the batteries twice. I love it!! I have a long driveway, and we have come to depend on it.

I have had this product about 16 months and it worked good up until just a month ago. I have changed batteries and it still will not pick up motion, like it use too. I know thar warrenty is off but I am going to try and return it for repails. I will let you know how that turns out. If had not cost as much as it would I would but a new/dirrerent one.

Had ours about 3 years now. Had to have the first transmitter replaced inside of one yr warranty. Problem is, they do not preform reliably in wet conditions. Each time it rains, moisture gets inside the transmitter. I have to bring it in and dry it out. Then starts working again. Even the replacement (warranty)transmitter had the same problem. Probably would be fine in a protected area. No longevity for this pricey unit. Too bad!

We bought two sensors and placed them in various places on our hilly mountain top home. When we can get line of site (such as down the hill at our pond) we can only get about 400 feet of reception. That's OK, but it's supposed to be heat and motion activated! It definitely catches motion, but it will catch ALL motion. If the sun is hitting the pond and the wind is blowing (ever so slightly--sigh!), it will go off every 11 seconds for a couple of hours. So we moved it closer to the house where we could watch for the animals at the mineral block (and away from the pond and its false alarms), but it goes off very consistently during a 3 hour period. We've jumped up so many times to see if it's an elk or deer or even our resident bear, but alas there's nothing! We suspect the sun hitting the sparse grass gently waving in the breeze is setting it off. If it's sooooo sensitive to motion and mild, ordinary mountain heat, then it's pretty worthless to us. We'll turn it off during the false alarm times, but then IF something should come up we'll never know, will we? The sensor we put on the driveway will also give off false alarms. It ALWAYS tells us if a car is coming or going, whether the car is white or cold, but it also goes off if there's a tree branch waving gently in the wind. So I clear all the branches around it, and that does the job, but it also exposes the sensor which now sticks out like a sore thumb calling out, "Thieves...Yuuu Huuu! Here I am. You can walk behind me and no one will know!" So, over all, we am extremely disappointed in the system. It was very expensive and if we had had time to test it EVERYWHERE during the return-it-free period, we might have been able to return it. But now we will just count it up to education...and we figure that if education only costs money, it's cheap! We hope if you order one, test it everywhere and be ready to return it within the allowable time frame. Our education might save you money ;-)

Our house sits back a 700 ft. driveway, so it's nice to know when someone approaches. This is the second driveway alert we've installed. The first was magnetic, signaling only when metal (a vehicle) passed the transmitter. It did work for several years but would go crazy with a whistle when the sun hit straight on. The magnetic seemed a good choice because of all the wildlife in the area but people on foot went undetected. Also, this alert had a reset button which if wasn't reset after an alert or two would alert continuously, quite a nuisance during a party. After much research we chose the Dakota WMT-3000 and couldn't be happier. It's very sensitive and will pick up an occasional squirrel or deer, but not a problem. It took only about 15 minutes to install and has worked flawlessly.

I posted a longer review under the section for the portable receiver and transmitter kit, having ordered that first. Worked so well I also ordered the base unit with 1 transmitter kit and 3 additional transmitters to more or less make a perimeter around our house. Very satisfied with these and hopefully they will last a long time. Just read the manual carefully if purchasing and set the jumpers and switches inside the units per instructions, and play with the angle of the transmitter 'beam' when installing, and I think you will be happy with it.

Dear Sir; I bought my DWA-2 in 2007 and have been waiting a year for it to catch the bad guy. And it did about 3 weeks ago at 1:37AM in my driveway. I yelled at him and told him to get off the property. I called the police, but new he would be gone before they arrived. And he was. Then it caught another one at 3:45AM and he too was told to leave the property and that I had called the police. I have four neighbors that are going to purchase one and have two others that have already done so. I know when the mailman has brought the mail or a delivery man has put a package on the front porch or back. I can see who is coming up the drive before I have to go to the door, you just might not want to respond. It is a must for people living alone or just need a extra pair of eyes watching over them. PS After I had an entire home security system installed then I asked the installer, owner of the company that I had always wanted a system that would let me know if someone was in the carport or coming up the drive, and he said go online and find one, he did not do those. So I looked it up and had one the next week. Sincerely Sheila Stahl Many thanks.

This is the 3rd driveway alarm system we've had, and it is by far the BEST! Very few false alarms - only when the wind is extremely high or when an errant bird flies too near. The other systems we had in the past kept us jumping up to look out a window to see if someone was really coming up the drive or not. The Dakota is so reliable that our son wants one for his home; we just ordered one as a Christmas gift for him. We highly recommend this system.

I was a little skeptic being all the advertising on assorted on-line products, but I took a chance ........ It's GREAT to see a product that lives up to its cost and sales description. I have had mine for 2 years now and just bought my sister one for her long driveway. I did have a little trouble with the batteries at first (Northeast and below 32F) but I fixed that by installing a parallel battery (2 - 9v batteries wired in parallel - I'm an electrician ) for longevity. I also changed them from Alkaline to Lithium due to the cold weather (all outdoor camera enthusiasts know for extremely cold weather to use these type) .......... now all is well ..... I couldn't have made a better choice

Installed Dakota 3000 quickly and easily 4 days ago. Love it so far! We have lots of wildlife here and so far no false alarms. BTW, I'm 'electronically challenged' ....yet this was so easy! Recommend it highly.

I purchased this system 10 months ago. It was very easy to install, and has always worked as described. I live on a large property, and the receiver is almost 3000 feet away from the sensor, behind a hill (no direct line of sight). I didn't think the Dakota would work in this application, but it has. In fact, last night, the system helped me catch two trespassers (or worse) on my property at 10 o'clock at night!! I don't normally write in for reviews, but last night convinced me that others need to know about this system.

This is a great product. We have a very long driveway (1/10th mile). Its good to know when someone is coming. It was very easy to set up, pop in a battery and attach it to a tree and it's ready to go.

Installed about 300 feet from the house, works great. It is all I expected and a little more. It will pick-up squirrels running past once in a while. Defintely deer and every person and vehicle going by. I'm going to buy the portable remote too.

I used this unit on a ranch and it works great also bought the remote and the ranch foreman loves it. He can be up to 3000 feet away and knows when some one has come in the front gate. The only draw back is the motion unit eats 9volt batteries so plan ahead. Other than the battery problem this unit is great will buy again.

I was in need of an alarm for our very long drive way, I needed to know when someone was coming up. Not only for intruders and unwelcomed guests, but to let me know that I was clear to drive down without meeting someone head on and then they would wave to back down a very steep and long drive way. The alarm worked great and was installed in minutes, it took longer to drive to the location for the transmitter than it did to install it. I have had it a couple of weeks and is working great, our transmit distance is about 1600 feet with many tress, not line of sight at all. The alarm is functioning perfectly. I have recommended it to a friend with a similar drive way situation.' My only concern now, is how long will the 9v battery last. I will find out and post the results then. My opinion it is a great security tool at a cost I could afford.
