My first time with a DIY alarm system. It was really fun learning about this professional system and how to set it up. I went the hard wire route as I did not want to deal with a bunch of batteries. I also got the extra zone/relay board, voice dialer, and signal tracer to help in wiring. I generally figured out the system by reading manuals over and over, experimenting, and researching on the net. However, the homesecuritystore was very helpful on issues I struggled with and on tips. The touch screen is really nice. But you will need a standard keypad for easier programming. For the hard wire route, I created an extra circuit board with a bunch of screw down wire connectors for power, panels, and sounders (you will never get all those wires on a single power connector). I also soldered everything and did not use wire crimp connectors. From past experience in electronics, if possible, solder what you can. Also watch how much you load down the power output as it is limited. Note, for some devices you will need an extra power supply of 12-24v. All this took quite a bit of work, and Im still tweaking it, but I find it very interesting and I have some piece of mind that the system should scare away most types looking for a simple score. And do not forget the other security things to do like deadbolts, bolted down safes, do not leave out keys, credit cards and such for easy pickings either.
