Jody on 8/1/2008, said: I have been using this for about 7 years, have had to replace this piece of the unit once. Heavy rains affect it after a while, and I have a severe ant problem. I found that putting a mothball into the device is helpful in keeping them away, but I have to remember to replace it every so often. It is a great warning device. I am getting ready to order another replacement b/c I broke the plastic latch and taping didn't work as well. I have to say I am very happy with it. I have a driveway on the side of the house that has limited views. I purchased the device mainly to be alerted when my son's bus arrives in the morning, but it is also useful for knowing when cars come down our driveway. The only time we have problems with this devices is when it is rainy or damp as It sometimes fails to work in those conditions. I am in the process of buying a new transmitter as the old one has been worn out by insects making homes inside of it. I would recommend this product. It worked beautifully. I moved two months ago and took my Optex 1000 with me and remounted it. It worked well at just about 1000 ft for a few days and then quit working altogether. A new battery had been installed. I have it sitting beside me as I write this and can't get it to work. I have emailed the company asking for help and only got a response acknowledging my contact. Hence I am at this website attempting to purchase another unit. I rated the unit a 4 instead of a 5 simply because of the lack of support from the company.
