Initially, I was confused. I wasn't sure what the this product was capable of until I got it home and started messing with. It would probably get a 5 except the for the manual. What it will do: 1. function as a: (1) stand alone alarm (2) Primary communicator with PSTN back-up or no back-up. (3) a back up dialer if you lose your PSTN. My chosen mode is: a back up dialer plus a stand alone alarm. I have a float with a contact in my sump--if water rises, then I get text message. You can have the same text message sent to a total of 8 people. There are four inputs which can have sensors on and four outputs. The outputs can be linked to the inputs or controlled via text messaging. I programmed using SMS (text messaging) which the techs aren't too familiar with. If you get it to receive a text but can't get it to send a text to a follow me number, it's probably the manner in which the follow me phone number was entered. I toiled for quite some time before just adding a 1 before the area code, then no problem. What it won't do: you cannot receive a text message from an alarm that occurs via your panel. Initially, I thought this panel and my alarm might communicate in some way--they don't. You would have to set up a relay between the alarm panel's pgm output to trigger an input on the dialer. I could keep going....... I wanted something I could take with me and not have to worry about additional charges for monitoring. My DSC doesn't know it's dialing through it and the CSM doesn't know the signal is GSM--tested it today and verified it on the web-based monitoring. I could cut my PSTN out all together, but a little redundancy can't hurt. I have a prepaid SIM in it. I can add minutes to the sim through that companies website. Just make sure that: (1) you have a good signal for that particular carrier (2) found out when your minutes expire--some 30 days, some 90 days up to a year on mine if I spend $100. Which, if I don't quite texting my GSM, is going to add up in a hurry. I hope this helps.

With my Visonic Powermax+ alarm, it was not possible to use the Powerlink (web module) and the Gsm module simultaneously. (Visonic should really fix this bug BTW! ) Since I already had a Powerlink unit, I looked into alternate solutions to the Visonic GSM and found this great Risco AGM GSM dialer. After ordering a T-Mobile SIM card, I went to one of their store to register it with the AGM. (It's easier to bring it as well to explain what you want to do and also scan the IMEI number from the AGM sticker to enable the SIM). Then I came back home, installed the SIM card, connected a phone cord from the Visonic alarm to the AGM and configured the AGM unit using the optional PC cable (recommended!) to set the Pin and test the new system. (Make sure to power up/down the AGM after reprogramming it so changes can take effect) It works great! All the Powermax calls are now dialed into the AGM which use the cellular GSM to carry them over instead of using the landline. As a side note, the AGM is also an alarm as well with 4 programmable hardwired inputs and outputs and a tamper contact. I am thinking to take advantage of this as well since I am already running out of zones on the Visonic. I could reroute up to 4 AGM inputs to a single hardwired zone 29 or 30.

I was going to use this along with a voice dialer for the Vista alarm system, and to dump my land line. Im going to just cut my loses on this after playing around with it for a few weeks. Placing it in the attic I get a signal strength of 2 or 3, scale from 0 to 5. I found that with a Centennial Wireless sim card, you can just put it in, you do not need to go through the steps in the manual, and if you do you will lock up the sim card. The audio sounds really bad, with buzzing and your voice sounds funny. The audio was also too bad to have my Dish Network DVR download data. For now I'll stick with my land line to dial out voice alarms.

As a standalone security panel, this is an exciting product. BUT, it is advertised as providing a cellular communication conduit for an existing security panel. I currently have an FBI (Honeywell) XL4600 panel, and while my panel dials through this unit successfully, the response tone from my local monitoring office is conveyed to the XL4600 panel at such a low level that the panel doesn't hear it and fails to send its information. Most competitive cellular products of this type offer the capability to adjust audio level, but this one does not. For me, that is a HUGE failure because it renders this unit useless for my application.
