The DSC Power 1832 security system is the second of three new Power Series systems recently released by DSC. This is a great kit to start with when building your security system and it's the same system that the big boy installers use. It features 8 hardwire zone inputs, supports up to 8 keypads, 32 user codes, and four partitions. Practically eliminates guesswork when selecting accessories and you have the option of expanding with additional hardwire or wireless accessories.

Achieving a balance between reliable security and refined functionality, next-generation POWERSERIES products are sure to electrify the industry by providing unprecedented levels of convenience, comfort and control. Among the new products comprising the updated POWERSERIES product platform are three new control panels. Each control panel shares a universal hardware/software design that ensures an equal and rich feature set and easy future expandability. With near limitless capabilities, the control panels seamlessly integrate with our award-winning Internet and network alarm communicators (T-Link), industry-leading visual alarm verification module (VVM110), SKYROUTE wireless alarm communicator and other specialty modules, wireless devices and structured cabling solutions. If you’re already familiar with POWERSERIES, the new platform will be an easy transition for you. Despite the addition of a number of value-added features, traditional programming remains unchanged, as does the installation process.

This was my first alarm install and WOW did this system make it easy. I had a little trouble programming all of my zones correctly with the keypad, but with one call to tech support, they had me up in going in less that 5 minutes. Great Product, Great Company.

So much better than Ademco. I'm a semi-professional, I work in the fire alarm industry. I used the PC1832 kit purchased here to replace an Ademco Vista 20P system I installed a few years back, but had begun to malfunction, which replaced a prior Vista system which had malfunctioned, too.The DSC may be a bit confusing at first to program, but it's easy to get the hang of. And it's SO much easier to understand and operate than Ademco systems, especially when explaining it to the user. No cryptic keystrokes or weird sequences to remember, just put the code in to arm the system, and put it in to disarm. The DSC system, and add-on expanders and modules, are also less expensive than Ademco equipment. My only issue is the panel enclosure should be a bit larger to accomodate larger batteries, other expansion modules, etc. One recommendation: although you can program the system with the basic fixed-english keypad that comes with the system, you'll want to get the full-word LCD keypad as well. The LCD keypad makes the system easier to use with the menu-driven interfaces and stuff. You can't go wrong with this system. I'll never install Ademco again!

Because the price was so attractive, I purchased 2, one for my house and my daughter's. Installation was normal. Be sure to order 4 conductor wire, because it's hard to get locally. Did not go the PC method on programing, but should have. As most others said programing is the difficult part. Because the keypad is LCD, don't assume it is menu driven. Programing is blind in some parts (your key strokes do not appear on LCD) and they are string entry ( i.e. *8+Installer code+Section#+zone Def only for all zones). Tec support is good, but my time zone did not work well with the PST. Once completed, works very well. Already looking to expand my system, more sirens, zones, etc.

Ideal for my needs. I've installed 3 systems in my 3 houses over 18 years and had only 1 motion detector false alarm in all that time. These systems are reliable, no hardware failures.

it was fairly easy to install. Programing from the manual was far more complicated than i expected. If it was not for the help of the homesecurity store's excellent supprt desk, I would not have a working system.

System works well, just a little harder to program than should be. Needs a really good downloader program and it would be super.

This is the first Alarm System I ever installled. The manual was a bit confusing for a non tech person, but once you figure out the way it programs, reading forum posts, it is not that hard. Had the whole thing running in about 8 hours from snaking wires to programming. Only had one real problem that the Home Security Store tech support had fixed in 5 minutes. I am thinking about insalling a second one for my brother now.

I just finished installing and programming this system. I am very pleased with how easy it was to install and how well it works. Installation is not bad if you take your time and read thru all of the documentation thoroughly first. I had to call for support while I was programming it and the support engineer was very friendly and helpful. I cannot believe what a great value this system is, professional grade panel + PIR + keypad + siren + battery + chassis for about a buck twenty shipped. Shipping was fast also. I will be back to HSS for some additional upgrades to my DSC -1832 system soon.

Concerning the post below all you need to use your USB port is a USB to serial adapter you can do a Google search or use the link I provided below (I don't know if HSS will post it) I just started the programing so I'll have to report back, but just wanted everyone to know that you can use your laptop which will make the programing much much easier!! Hope you find this tip useful. And use you DSC system to take a bit out of crime! Tom j. www.usconverters.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=67&products_id=195&gclid=CN7_m8blypQCFQMIswodG3WfkA Programming If you were hoping for a big update from the previous Power 832, prepare to be disappointed. Sure you can plod through programming from the more expensive keypads, but the computer interface is still good-old 1980's serial port. I had to look high and low for a computer old enough to support DSC's outdated system to load their 'newest' 2002 DLS software. USB would have been a thoughtful (if not competitive) upgrade for the 'new' models.

System is well worth the money, unfortunately programming was a bit difficult at first. After a few practice runs I saw the big picture, then the programming was very simple. I would say that this is not an easy task for your DIY / Weekend Warrior. Overall I feel this system is an excellect value with many features / options.

The only good side to this system is the price. Other than that, this system is very difficult to program, and the keypad is not ideal for first time users. Keypad is very difficult to understand that they mean with unfriendly signs and lights. Rather get basic led ligted keypad... should be much easier to use. It takes good 2-3 evenings to figure out how to program this system fully. Be sure to keep this manual handy because you'll need them to reprogram for any other reason. I recommend GE NX series instead...much easier to program and use.

Being New to Home Alarm installation/programing, this was a feat in itself for me. Programming was a pain, the DLS software is a must. Thank goodness I have a friend who knows the DSC system well, or I'd still be try to program the thing. Added the wireless module to it, chose it over the wireless all in one setup, didn't like the idea of yanking the unit out of the wall to kill it. Anyways, love the sleak look, functions and expandability.

For the price I am very pleased with all the features and versitility of this unit. Fairly easy to install(I'm a first timer). Programing instructions are a bit pretty dificult to follow at first- But no problem after you get the hang of it. I highly recomend going to the DSC website and downloading all the manuals- there are 3 in total- It helps with the programing

Once you get help from support it is easy to use. The directions to hook up the motion detector and the siren were not enough without calling support. I also got conflicint help when I called, BUT - I would recommend this system or any other system that this store sells. My system is up and running and I will be using it again in the next home I purchase.

Replaced my old system with this one and I'm very pleased with it. I will add that I'm a do-it-yourselfer, not an alarm tech, and found the programming instructions to be somewhat confusing. So, I had to call tech support for help. The Home Security Store Tech Support people were great! They were pleasant, knowledgeable and easy to work with. They had me up and running in no time. I'd recommend the Home Security Store to friends.

This works great, there were no Normally open contacts in the sensor that came with it. The unit does program easily if you follow the steps. I would have no problem buying another one for my house.
