... 4 C batteries and it lights, however the lights aren't that bright. The small LED's are the lights not the big thing in the center. Overall it lights a dark staircase when someone opens door, but not bright enough for what I thought I was getting.

This unit works great. I used indoors in my stairwell. My cats like to sleep on the stairs. With this light I don't have to worry about stepping on them. It also acts as a deterrent against intruders and is very reliable. I am getting ready to purchase one for my shed and the car port. You can easily mount it on the wall or to the ceiling. Also, you can leave it on the floor or on a shelf in order to conveniently move it around. Well worth the cost.
