The DWA-8 Driveway Observer Driveway Alarm is one of the most popular driveway alert systems in the home security industry for a reason: it's immaculate. For home and business owners with larger properties including ranches, large driveways and large backyards, this wireless motion detector picks up movement from up to 50 feet away and is weatherproof, so your property stays protected under any and every condition.

The DWA-8 consists of 2 components: The weatherproof transmitter that mounts near your driveway or backyard and the versatile receiver, usually set in the kitchen or bedroom. Together they help build your sense of security- keeping you aware of everyone and everything approaching your property at all times.

DWA-8 Transmitter

Powered by a 9 volt battery, the transmitter detects objects up to 50 feet away from where it is stationed. It can easily be mounted overhead or to the side of a driveway and its weatherproof design keeps its functioning even in the most treacherous of weather. The transmitter and receiver can be set up to 1,000 ft apart.

Transmitter Features

  • Compact, Discreet Design (5in. x 4in. x 2.5in.)
  • Energy Efficient 9V Battery (Included)
  • Lasts Approximately 1 year
  • Weatherproof
  • DIP Switches Uniquely Identifies Unit to Receiver
  • 360 Degree Antenna for Optimal Performance
  • Ability to detect up to 50 feet away

DWA-8 Receiver

The receiver is specifically meant for indoor use and is your personal alert system when the transmitter is set off. Each receiver zone is assigned a corresponding audible tone via dip switches, making it easy to determine the zone that has been triggered. Additionally there is an electronic LED Counter to allow for a vehicle count with this driveway alarm.

The receiver also features special outputs should you want to add accessories to it that will expand what your driveway alarm can do (for example: sirens, strobes, etc.). Best of all, if you ever want to add more transmitters to the DWA-8, the receiver will support up to 4 of them. Immaculate, indeed.

Receiver Features

  • For use Indoors, Wall-Mountable, or Works on Table Top
  • Expandable; Supports Up to Four Transmitters providing
  • Unique Auditory Transmitter Zone Indentification
  • Internal Speaker & Auxillary Speaker Output Terminals w/ In-Line Volume Control
  • 12Volt DC / 500mA Output for Accessories (Siren, Strobe, Auto Dialer, etc.)
  • Please Verify the Polarity! (+/-)
  • DC Output Time Customizable: Set 1 or 5 Seconds via Dip Switches
  • Omni-Directional Antenna for Optimal Performance

I bought this unit in Sep. of 13. I installed it per instructions. Either the transmitters would not transmit properly or the receiver would not pick up the message, or both. I moved the transmitters to various locations with the same results. Cars and trucks will come in and out of the driveway with NO detection, and sometime or another, the alarm will sound and nothing has passed the transmitter. This has happened 3 times with me as a witness. I feel I have wasted my investment for safety.

I purchased this system approximately six months ago and it works great! I plan on purchasing extra sensors to cover the perimeter of my property, I just wished that this system had different tones for each sensor.

Bought this system about a month ago along with an extra transmitter. Easy install and took most of the time to install trying to decide on location of transmitters. So far the system has worked as expected. Great coverage and distance. Only drawback is you can change the tones for each transmitter. Otherwise great product.

I purchased 3 sensors & 2 receivers about approximately six months ago. After seeing them in action, my father had me order him one receiver & 3 sensors. We all sleep better at night having these on outside in addition to our internal house alarms. Thus far, the product has performed as advertised. There was no difficulty in setting up & installing. The product would be even better if each sensor had a means to set off a different tone on the receiver so one could tell which sensor was tripped; this would be helpful in determining where a potential intruder may be. Other than that, I agree the price is too high.

I bought this driveway alarm about a month ago. I am really impressed with it so far. It took a few tries to get the placement just right. Works as it should.

I purchased one of these for my rural home 18 months ago. Excellent service and no more surprise knocks at my front door. The only thing I needed to do was wrap the outside unit with electrical tape to keep moisture out of the unit. I am ordering another one for my son's home today.

EXACTLY what we wanted after our 15 yr old Dakota Alarm died and the mfgr wouldn't/couldn't repair/replace it. Tried Miltronics system and returned it after ONE DAY as unsatisfactory/unreliable for a refund (minus P&H of course).

Bought two units (one for father-in-law) and had them installed before Christmas 2009. We live approximately 40 miles north of Pittsburgh. Both have worked flawlessly so far. The unit at my residence is on a utility pole within ten feet of driveway. It picks up everything from birds passing by to nest near pole, to adults walking by over thirty feet away. Sending distance for our units is less than 100 feet for each transmitter. Just make sure to prevent dust build-up on transmitter unit face. (Wipe it off every 3-4 months...yes months.)
