Powerline Interface Module
The PIM Powerline Interface Module is a small plug-in device designed to be theinterface between an RS232 or USB port on a computer or dedicatedcontroller and the powerline.
The PIM is the device of choice for interfacing PCS's UPStart Setup Software to the powerline.
The PIM plugs into any standard 120VAC electricaloutlet.The PIM-R is an RS-232 serial interface that connects to anyavailable COM port via a DB9 serial cable (included). The PIM-U is a USBserial interface that connects to any available USB port.Softwaredrivers allow the PIM-U to emulate a serial PIM by taking over anavailable COM port.
Transmits and Receives From the Powerline
The PIM is both a UPB transmitter and a UPB receiver giving thehost the ability to perform true two-way powerline communication.Itimplements a simple serial (ASCII) message set that is fully documentedon the PCS website.
The PIM is the device of choice forinterfacing PCS's UPStart Setup Software to the powerline. All PulseWorx devices, with the PIM, can be initially configured usingPCS’s free UPStart Software setup tool.UPStart enables configuringsuch parameters as Network Name, Network ID, Unit ID, Room name, Devicename, default on light levels, fade rates, LED colors, dimming disable,auto shut-off time, etc.As well as test the operation andcommunication strength of the device.UPStart has the option toconfigure an entire network off-line and then download the informationinto the devices after they are installed in the home.
Two Modes of Operation
The PIM communicates in twodifferent modes of operation, depending on the level of informationrequired from the powerline.Message Mode informs the host when a valid UPB message is received on the powerline. Pulse Mode informs the Hostof every UPB Pulse that is on the powerline.
