General Electric has made the 80-649-3N-XT - GE Simon XT Wireless Security System with family in mind from its easy to arm and disarm mode to its latch key feature.
The GE Simon XT is an inexpensive, yet quality made system that offers up to 40 zones of burglary and fire protection.

This Simon XT kit includes the control panel and three wireless door and window sensors, plus one motion detector that is immune to pets 40 pounds or under. The control panel is appeasing to the eye and has a large backlit LCD display. There are also emergency fast action keys and a microphone for emergency 2-way VOX communication with a monitoring service representative.

Within the kit is a 4-button key fob as well. You can enjoy the convenience of this remote by pushing just one button to arm and disarm the system. To disarm the system without the remote, simply hit the disarm button and punch in your code. There is 1 master access code and 8 programmable user access codes of 3 to 6 digits.

The Simon XT supports off-premise telephone control to arm and disarm the system, check system status, activate no-entry delay, or activate the latchkey feature. Did your teenager meet curfew? Find out with the latch key option which will notify you if your child doesn’t disarm the system within a set time.

The kit also include a back-up power supply that keeps you covered and the system operating during power failures and so forth.

Simon XT™ is a cost-effective security system that offers up to 40 zones of burglary and fire protection, and which complies with SIA False Alarm Standards. With a built-in display touchpad and a status speaker that provides visual and voice messages for feedback, Simon XT is well suited for houses, apartments, and condominiums.

The Simon XT panel comes standard with 40 wireless zones, or it can be set up with 38 wireless zones and two built-in hardwired supervised burglary zones (normally-closed loop only). The built-in radio receiver works with both crystal and SAW LearnMode™ sensors.

Simon XT supports off-premises telephone control to arm and disarm the system, check system status, activate no-entry delay, or activate the latchkey feature. With latchkey capabilities, the panel can be programmed to notify customers if the system has not been disarmed at a scheduled time.

Simon XT supports convenient system operation from anywhere within the premises with the use of wireless touchpads. Choose from the Remote Handheld Touchpad, two-, four-, or five-button crystal or SAW Keychain Touchpads (keyfobs), or two-button ELM Keychain Touchpad. ELM (encrypted LearnMode) technology secures every keychain touchpad transmission. When powered by the optional line carrier transformer, adding X10-based modules lets customers control lights, appliances, and other devices.

Simon XT can send messages to a central monitoring station using SIA or Contact ID (CID) formats. The panel can also report alarms to another land-line phone location or cell phone using Voice Event Notification. Built-in two-way voice capability with VOX (voice-activated switching) provides additional security and emergency contact with the control monitoring station.

System programming can be done from the panel using the built-in touchpad, or off-site using Enterprise Downloader Software (revision 3.4 or later).

Very easy to install and configure. Very versatile unit. Pet motion sensor has never generated a false alarm from our cat but picks up people very well.

Easy to install once you find a place to set the panel where there is access to phone line and power. Manual clear except for the use of Groups (sensor type) This is key to proper function. Ex door window sensor group 10 means delay while 14 means set alarm immediately no delay. Table 3 and 4 page 7 in manual could be clearer on this but after some trial and error figured out their meaning. Sensors have a little arrow on magnet and sensor box they must point to each other and be next to each other to work properly. Manual not clear on this. Internal siren very loud and can be heard several feet from house. To test dialing set Account # (Security Function) to dummy number and set (Report Menu) Phone 1 Report Mode to voice dialer so it calls your phone # entered for testing. This is in Table 6. During test My mobil phone was the central monitoring company. Overall system is very good for the money and easy to set up once the above items are understood.

I found this system easy to install and use. It was very very easy to program, just read the instructions and use the install worksheets first. Remember, you must use the line jack (the bigger one of the two) to hook up as your line out on your phone. The other one is for line in. You can plug a small regular phone jack into the big plug. I had to trouble shoot and research this to figure that out, it's not in the instructions. I have this system calling my cell phone if an alarm is tripped. Set your phone's dial tone setting to long from normal. It will need to be on the long tone setting for this system to hear the tone. I highly recommend. This one seemed nicer than the Simon 3, as it has a display which helps a lot with programming and knowing what it is doing. Shipping was fast through the home security store, and I found their price for this kit was the lowest of the other sites that sell this kit.

I have had the system for a couple months now. It has given my family and I great piece of mind; however, I have recently started experiencing issues. My alarm panel keeps telling me that one of my sensors has a low battery, but I've changed it and it continues to do this. Doing some research on the internet, I found out that there has been a recall on some of the sensors, including the ones included with this system! The other thing is that I was never able to get the Keychain working and I have no clue why it will not work! Shipping was quick and accurate from this dealer.
