Simon XT(TM) is a cost-effective security system that offers up to 40 zones of burglary and fire protection, and which complies with SIA False Alarm Standards. With a built-in display touchpad and a status speaker that provides visual and voice messages for feedback, Simon XT is well suited for houses, apartments, and condominiums.

The Simon XT panel comes standard with 40 wireless zones, or it can be set up with 38 wireless zones and two built-in hardwired supervised burglary zones (normally-closed loop only). The built-in radio receiver works with both crystal and SAW LearnMode(TM) sensors.

Simon XT supports off-premises telephone control to arm and disarm the system, check system status, activate no-entry delay, or activate the latchkey feature. With latchkey capabilities, the panel can be programmed to notify customers if the system has not been disarmed at a scheduled time.

Simon XT supports convenient system operation from anywhere within the premises with the use of wireless touchpads. Choose from the Remote Handheld Touchpad, two-, four-, or five-button crystal or SAW Keychain Touchpads (keyfobs), or two-button ELM Keychain Touchpad. ELM (encrypted LearnMode) technology secures every keychain touchpad transmission. When powered by the optional line carrier transformer, adding X10-based modules lets customers control lights, appliances, and other devices.

Simon XT can send messages to a central monitoring station using SIA or Contact ID (CID) formats. The panel can also report alarms to another land-line phone location or cell phone using Voice Event Notification. Built-in two-way voice capability with VOX (voice-activated switching) provides additional security and emergency contact with the control monitoring station.

System programming can be done from the panel using the built-in touchpad, or off-site using Enterprise Downloader Software (revision 3.4 or later).

Bought this system after years of headaches with an X-10 system. Like night and day. This system is great. took about 5 hours to install but this included removing the old system and installing the new. (16 sensors. We purchased the 2 way talking touch screen keypad. Very nice addition. The system works great. Good quality build, well designed and very happy with it. If you install this yourself, which is very do-able,make sure you read the instructions thoroughly. Of the couple of problems I did have on the install it was from not following the directions. I would recommend (and have) this system to anyone

We had this system installed by an ADT Authorized Dealer and have consistent device failures on several wireless sensors. Specifically, our front entry door will Arm properly, but once we exit and the alarm goes 'live' the sensor sends an "Open" signal to the panel and sets off the alarm. We can't trust the wireless sensors - next time, we'll go with a hardwired system.

I had a Simon 3 for a number of years and it work fine until recently when there was a problem with the backup battery communicating with the system board. Replacement battery did not fix. I called Tech Support and after some discussion, it was agreed that I should replace the system. i was told that the Simon XT was a better system so I bought it. I had asked it all the Simon 3 sensors and accessories would work on the Simon XT and was assured they would. The Simon XT does not support X-10 devices and that is a problem. Two of my remote keypads don't work with the XT. And the thing that I dislike the most is that the Entry and Exit delays cannot be disabled. The long and short of this is that the Simon XT is not as good as the Simon 3 and I would not recommend it to anyone.

This unit is a great wireless security system. It's relatively easy to instal, once you read the most current manual. My system has over 15 door and window sensors, and 3 pet-proof motion detectors. I also have and love the remote talking, touch-screen keypad for entry through the garage. I have two cheap external sirens hooked up to the unit to really scare someone away. The internal siren is not enough. Plus an external siren will disorient an intruder so he/she can't locate and smash the box. I especially like the voice-announce (called a CHIME 1) whenever a sensor is tripped. I can no longer sneak into the house and surprise my wife. The programming is relatively simple and the options are flexible. However, the printed manual that comes with this unit stinks and gets a 0/5 stars. Even the 38 page manual that you get with the CD gets a 2/5 stars. It stinks as well. You really should download the version 2.0 rev manual, which is 58 pages long, to get all of the information needed. With the new manual you get a list of all of the possible sensor names with their numbers as a short-cut. In other words, for "Master Bedroom Sliding Door" you simply have to enter a few numbers rather than scrolling though the entire list looking for the correct word(s). Trust me, you need the newest, revised manual. Also, beware of changing the Installer or Dealer codes. GE doesn't tell you that by doing so will inactivate parts of the programming menu. I learned this the hard way - after changing the dealer and installer codes, I discovered that I needed to change one of the external siren options. The HW 1 option had disappeared from the menu and I had to re-set the unit back to factory standards (not an easy task) to get the menu option that I needed to come back. I then had to re-program all of the sensors over again. The on-line/phone support was helpful, however. I give them a 4/5 stars.

I purchased the GE Simon XT System. I installed if myself. The system works great. My only conplaint would was the instructions. Some of the information needed to program the system is not available in the instruction manual given. But I got lots of help form the Home Security Store Techs.

Being an old alarm installer (last worked installing in 1973--remember the Ademco panel with the ratchet relay) I was a little hesitant to try an install. I got to say this GE Simon was so simple I was glad I decided to go for it. It's so versatile changes can be made with little effort. Of course, that's only after you figure out how to navigate the menu. Reading the instructions might seem daunting at first but is simple once you get your fingers on the keypad. I used the wireless jamb type buttons and they made a very clean install. I wouldn't recommend the GE siren( the cheapo one for around $18) I pretty much sounded like a wounded rabbit. You might want to print the PDF file either from on line or the included CD. It's eighty four pages long but a big help.

This is a great system for the user who just wants to install a system with no fuss. BEWARE though. The X10 capabilities do NOT work.
