The GE Simon 3 is a popular and well proven, time-tested security system. That’s because it’s easy to set-up and easy to operate. However, the Simon 3 is much more than a simple alarm system - it’s a system that caters to a family’s needs. It not only incorporates intrusion detection, but incorporates what’s called a latchkey notification feature which will notify you by phone or pager if your child does not arrive home at a predetermined time and disarm the system. In addition, the Simon 3 is capable of controlling up to eight X-10 devices such as lights and appliances. This means you can turn on the lights by schedule, by event, or by the touch of a button.

With the Simon 3, you can choose whether or not you want to use a monitoring system or simply have it call your phone or pager, or it can do both. Plus, because it is wireless, Simon installs in hours, not days with no mess, no wires, no dust or imposition.

The Simon 3 kit is made up of a control panel which serves as the keypad and siren. Many users have commented on the console design which is smaller and more attractive than other typical panels. (But don’t let its size fool you!) The kit also includes 2 door and window transmitters, 1 pet immune motion detector, one 24 hour back-up battery so your system remains up and running for 24 hours in the event of longer power outages, one X-10 ready transformer, a jack and cord, plus a user’s video.

Other great features of the Simon 3 include 24 available zones so you can protect your home or business from burglary, fire, and carbon monoxide. Plus, 1 partition, remote phone control, and a two-way voice feature which allows you to talk back and forth with the monitoring station in the case of an emergency or a false alarm. There are also 6 programmable access codes which can be set to 3, 4, 5, or 6 digit codes, so each family member can have a private code. In addition, Simon's built-in digital voice directs you through every step of operating the system, plus tells you the status of your system and the location of an alarm.

The Simon 3 offers sophisticated security and home automation which is made simple for you to program, learn, and operate. As GE says – “Simon says…Simply the best in security”.

Here is a recap and some additional Features –

• 24 wireless sensor zones; 2 hardwire zones
• 6 user-programmable access codes
• Up to 8 individual light or appliance control units
• Integrated radio receiver
• Built-in touchpad
• Rechargeable back-up battery
• 2-way audio verification as a built-in feature or add-on
• Supports 2-way RF Talking Touchpad
• Complies with UL 985 rating

Our famil;y purchased the system to replae and existing system and it is perfect for our application. Set up and programming are a snap. After a couple of question calls to tech support at The store, all questions were answered and it is all working perfectly. I am currently purchasing added sensor and key fobs to add to the system. Thank you.

I installed this system 4 years ago. I armed every door and window on my first floor and added motion sensors for when we are not home. We arm the doors and windows when sleeping. System works great and is easy to install. Never had a false tirgger even during lighting storms. Installed a key pad in the garage and use the key pad on the unit in the house. Plan on installing in my parent home. This is a great product.

I have been in the market for a self installed security system for a couple of years. I would recommend the GE Simon system based on my own experience. My research lead me to speak with an install rep prior to purchase and was informed the most challenging part of installation is running the phone line and power line to the unit. This information is true with my experience. The programming was intimidating at first but if you carefully read through the manual, it is fairly manageable as most the default settings is what I kept the system at.

Programming was very difficult. It was too hard for someone with no experience. You should advertise as such. I had to hire an alarm company to install it, so I saved no money by purchasing it from you. The only positive was that your customer service was great.

Just as advertised. Needed some phone help on some of the more complex set up issues which was available and always met my needs. Highly recommended. Still expanding the system.

I have this same system installed by ADT for a price of 1800.00. Save yourselves a bundle and install it yourselves. Have it call you on your cell phone instead of a monitoring system and save your self another 40.00 per month...

Installed this system after my old Ademco went out. What a difference! Went from no features on my old Ademco to many on the Simon. This is a best buy for the money it has easy installation and is very dependable. This system has a lot of accessories available so you wont be bored customizing. I purchased everything from the The Home Security Store, Eric in sales took care of everything quickly and I will definitely be calling him back. And no, I don't work for them I am just a satisfied customer.

The system is not quite as easy to install and program as others had indicated. I had some frustration to say the least until I called the tech support line. After that things were indeed very easy. As with most tech support lines these days you should expect to be on hold for up to a 1/2 hour waiting for help. Late day calls (last 30 minutes probable won't get answered).

The only real limit on the Simon 3 is the 24 sensor ceiling and the amount you're willing to spend on sensors etc. There are many progammable options to make the system behave the way you want (check out the Simon 3 installers guide for an idea here). Performance so far (1 month) has been flawless. The initial panel cost is low but the cost of sensor and remote keypads adds up pretty fast. If you're going to have less than 24 total sensor however, it's still likely worthwhile. One downside of these integrated main panel/keypad units - if you install it in plain sight by your main entry for example, it could be easily smashed into oblivion during the entry delay thereby crippling your total alarm system... you need to 'hide' the Simon 3 panel somewhere and use remote keypads at visible entry points (again the cost goes up at $99 each). The other limitation is the power of an exterior siren. Simon 3 can power a rather small unit (13-950) but you really need it to trip a relay that triggers some high powered exterior sirens/lights... more work but do-able. The X10 integration is nice but I understand not to rely on it for your primary siren(s).

Like the previous reviews say, read the manuals (all of them) at least twice to understand the basic concepts and choose the features you want from your system. They are written like software manuals where the developer knows the system and never expects the software to be used by anyone other than another developer. The system has a lot of features and you can easily get bogged down into the shear amount of options available. My biggest obstacle was that I had a previous system and it was a bit hard for me to get used to the differences in the GE system versus the old system I had. I had to throw out my assumptions of how I thought the GE system should work. Once I did that, I found programming was extremely easy once I was able to choose the features I wanted activated. One thing that would help is a quick guide that would show three or four different scenarios for programming that most people would typically choose. Overall, I am very happy with the system. It is doing exactly what I want it to do and I would recommend it.

The Simon 3 was very easy to install and program. Use my cell phone as my home phone and I didnt want to install a LAN line so I decided to go with myalarm.info to use broaband monitoring with wireless adapter. The simon 3 and the broadband monitoring works great. Extremelly easy to setup. Much better then signing contracts with ADT etc... David Swanson

I've had this system installed now for ~ 70 days. It was fairly easy to setup (minus one small problem with phone communication - hint, use the bigger phone jack). I love how expandable it is! This is a great system for the money.

First off, our unit was defective, and had to be sent back. They did fix and return withing 10 business days. So, they stand by thier word. The manuals are not easy to understand. This is the reason the installation is so hard. You have to go between the two manuals to get everything done. They are made for those who have installed systems before. The help line is very good, once you get through. Weekend hours would have been helpful. Overall, we are satisfied with the unit. The company has proved that it stands by its word.

I RECIEVED MY NEW GE SIMON 3 SECURITY SYSTEM TODAY, AND I WAS SLIGHTLY DISAPOINTED WHEN I OPEND THE BOX. I COULDNT FIGURE OUT HOW TO CONNECT IT TO THE TRANSFORMER SINCE IT DOESNT COME WITH 22 GUAGE WIRE THAT IS NEEDED, BUT ALL I NEEDED TO DO WAS CALL TECH SUPPORT, AND THEY TOLD ME TO GO OVER TO RADIOSHACK, AND BOUGHT IT FOR FIVE BUCKS. I LOVE MY GE SECURITY SYTEMS. IT WAS SO EASY TO INSTALL, AND EVERYTHING IS WORKING GREAT.
