The Wireless 2000 Optex Driveway Alarm is one of the most highly rated and recommended perimeter awareness systems at Home Security Store. An upgrade from the Wireless 1000, its covers ground on your property like no other and the long range capability from transmitter to receiver adds great convenience to your home or business monitoring.

This visitor driveway alarm's transmitter comes equipped with 2 different detection patterns. The first is a straight beam (invisible to the naked eye) that ranges up to 50 feet away from the transmitter. The second is a fan pattern that constantly scans for motion from left to right and vis versa for up to 17 feet. Both patterns are effective perimeter alerts for a home or business and add the convenience of choice to detect approaching vehicles.

There are no limits to where you can mount the transmitter (which is the size of a softball). With a 2000 foot long FR transmission range (open field/ line of sight- transmission performance ranges from 150 ft. around stucco/plaster construction and 100 ft. around reinforced construction), get alerts from virtually anywhere within your home or business. Beyond driveways, the reliability of this new wireless technology allows you to monitor shoplifting zones, dressing and fitting rooms, unauthorized exits, jewelry display boxes, drive up windows and more!

Use it as an entry or walkway chime, wireless doorbell or a warehouse delivery notification system. With 5 different sensitivity levels and 3 different chime tones you can get creative with your installation and be notified with alerts up to 80db loud.

Need to cover more than just a driveway? Up to 12 transmitters can be incorporated and if you add more, the receiver can identify which zones have been breached by certain tones.

Another advance in driveway alarm technology is the Wireless 2000's ability to trigger other security system devices. Easily programmed, the built-in weatherproof motion detector can trigger door strikes, lights, sirens and cameras. Today's technology at its best.

The Optex Wireless 2000 driveway alarm sets the standard for perimeter alert systems and ultimately helps turn a simple home security system into a powerhouse of capability.

The Wireless 2000 is ideal for use in myriad ways, including:

  • As a perimeter alert for your home or shop
  • As a driveway alarm to detect approaching vehicles
  • An entry or walkway chime
  • A wireless doorbell
  • A warehouse delivery notification system

Additional Features

  • The Sensor Has a Newly Developed Non-Directional Antenna
All wireless transmitters have “dead spots” within their transmission range. The sensor’s improved antenna design greatly reduces “dead spots” to make installation easier and increase reliability.

  • The Transmitter Has a High Gain Antenna & Narrow Band Tuning
Optimal antenna design and fine RF tuning achieve a high signal to noise rate, ensuring long range and consistent operation.

  • More Than 8 Million Codes
Transmission codes are preset at the factory with over 8 million possibilities, virtually eliminating the possibility of interference or crosstalk.

  • Low Battery Signal
Low battery indication by tone and LED tells you when to replace batteries and prevents malfunctions.

  • Sensor Chime Box w/ Relay
Form C relay for activating other devices (50V AC 1A max. or 24V DC 1A max.) with adjustable output duration.

  • OPTEX Part Number
    RCTD-20U

Frequently Asked Questions

  1. How loud is the chime?
80 decibels, or about as loud as an alarm clock.

  2. Can you add more than 4 transmitters to 1 receiver?
A total of 12 transmitters can be programmed in a single receiver.

  3. Where can you find a replacement power-supply for the receiver?
The receiver uses any 9VDC adapter, which can be purchased at your local electronics supply store. Thus eliminating the need for an online order.

  4. What does the Repeater do?
The Repeater allows the transmission range to be extended between the chime box and the transmitter. That way you can set the transmitter further away or in a place that is not within a clear line of sight, and the Repeater in-between will allow a signal to travel undisturbed. (Sold Separately)

  5. What is the handheld transmitter used for?
The hand-held transmitter features a push-button which will send a signal to the chime-box. The handheld transmitter can be used as a location finder for the blind, or can be programmed to release door strikes or magnetic locks.

This product works very well! Very simple design as well as great flexibility for adding on when needed. Range is also very good. I don't know about the last review? It works great at night!

This system does not work after dark or when it's raining. Sent it back to be checked and was told it works properly. If so, it's of no benefit to the homeowner.

I really enjoy the security of having the Wireless 2000 alert me when there is movement in my two driveways. I have to turn it off, however, when the weather conditions are windy! It is sensitive enough to pick up blowing leaves! Wildlife can set it off, as well. I know when a squirrel, deer, or bird crosses the path of the one in the farthest driveway. I highly recommend this system!

This is my second purchase of this item. My last one lasted about 17 years and then the transmitter began to fail. After I set up the new one I set the original receiver to new one and now I have two receiver that work fine. I recommend this to anyone needing a drive up alarm. One word of caution - Don't point it toward the evening sun. TCG I did not purchase from the Home Security Store, but after looking at their price. I should have. It cost me $22.00 dollars more at SmartHome.com Look around before buying. :-)

I purchased the optex 1000 from a local security service, who installed it and used it about 1 yr. I have a long drive comming to my house and placed the alarm at various distances 150ft. to 250ft. with the same poor performance. Sometimes it works and sometimes it dosen't. Tech support didn't have a good answer why it only works part time. I then ordered a optex 2000, thinking the improved distance would work better. There is no difference between the 1000 and 2000. I watch vehicles drive by and it might work and it might not. Still searching for a driveway alarm that will work.

Couldn't be more pleased with this unit. Clear signal even over a small hill on an 800 ft driveway. Easy set-up and programming. We've bought two more.

Set this unit up about 300 feet from the house/receiver. I don't know if the aluminum siding on my house has anything to do with it, but it seemed to work at first, then stopped all together. I tried several locations within my house, and it only seemed to work at a window directly in line with the transmitter. I have tried several different driveway monitors, with little or no success so far. Unfortunately, there doesn't seem to be a version that is 100% wired..... I don't feel like digging a trench for it, but I would if I could be assured of it's dependability. I will try the MURS version in the near future, and if it doesn't work, I'll make up my own fully wired detector with a hose-type detector or similar... it's a shame considering the cost of these systems how "twitchy" they are.

Security Advisor Comment
Aluminum siding is a factor that affects wireless coverage. Other factors that reduce range and affect coverage area include metal studs in walls and foil-backed insulation inside walls.

The Optex Wireless 2000 lives up to it's predecessor the Wireless 1000! Optex kept all the great features and expanded it's wireless range to 2000 feet. This system was super easy to setup and install, I did it in less than an hour the day I got it and haven't had to touch it since! Home Security Store sales staff was really easy to deal with.

Purchased the system and extra eye. Works but not reliable. Car can pass through with no signal. Can't use in summer as the sun apparently makes the case expand and the alarm is constant. Hasn't worked for me. Even changed eye and second one did the same thing. Can use in the winter in Oregon.

I installed the Wireless1000 in 1983 at our vacation home in Turks & Caicos Islands. Used 3 transmitters that worked flawlessly for 8 years until the lens covers broke due to intense heat and UV rays from the sun. The only downsiide for the Wireless1000 was the range. The house is all masonry per building codes in hurricane areas, so the driveway transmitter was installed at its maximum range of 100 feet with 2 concrete walls in-between. I replaced the 1000 with the 2000 series. Love it, and now I have all the transmitters and the receiver located exactly where I want them.

Installed 6 mos ago. Works fine. Only problem it is not loud enough for me. My home is large and If I am not in the same room as the reciever I cannot hear it. Had the air sensor driveway hose before and it was loud. Went wireless due to snow covered driveway.

Last night we awoke to hear this driveway alarm sounding and when we looked outside we saw men with flashlights lurking around our vehicle. We called the police and they were quickly arrested and carrying a bag of stolen items for nearby cars parked on driveways who didn't have this driveway alarm. After showing the officer the alarm sensor mounted on the garage he remarked he was going to get one for his house. This is a great alarm that works!

I used this unit on my driveway which is about 150 feet from the receiver. It worked great ...for about 30 days when the the first heavy rain storm came. The transmitter unit just quit. I expect they'll send me a new transmitter, but it's a pain to have to ship it back and wait. We'll see how well this store honors it's warrantee.

I bought this unit becaue I wanted to know when someone came to by house. When I'm working in the Barn or out by the pool, I can't hear the door bell or see the driveway. The unit seems to work fine, but I was very disappointed that the RECEIVER IS NOT PORTABLE! IT MUST BE PLUGGED INTO AN AC OUTLET! How difficult would it have been to put some batteries in the thing? Why did they make it look like it was portable?

Installed this unit on my driveway (300' long) and it has performed well. I shoot across my driveway and receiver is inside house about 150' away, but near a window. Sensitivity is very high and false alarms during windy wx (leaves and foliage in motion) do occur. I am experimenting with different angles etc. I wish it came in camo color as it sticks out like a sore thumb on a tree. I may take one reviewer's advice and place it inside a box (painted in camo of course)to cut down the viewing area.I've used it a couple months now and so far so good.

I really like this driveway alarm. It does exactly what it is supposed to do. Installation was very easy. I installed it onto a tree and aimed it across my driveway. The furthest edge of my driveway from the IR sensor is 25 feet. I used the "narrow" beam setting. I found that the sensor needs to be pointing slightly downward to reach across the driveway. I really like the chiming sound inside my office. It certainly is less jarring than the buzzer from my old system. I recommend this unit without reservations.
