This is my second review of this product. Here are some helpful tips: 1) The drilled holes have to be deep enough. Measure the depth of the electronic sensor and make a depth gage for the drilled hole. If you don’t drill the hole deep enough, you’re in trouble since you can’t get the sensor out without destroying it first. On the other hand, if you drill the hole for the electronic sensor too deep, it will sink in too much and you may have trouble getting the screw cap off. Make a depth gage and use it. 2) The 7/8” hole for the magnet is a bit loose. It’ll work just fine, but I actually used a 13/16” bit to drill out the last half of this hole and the fit was a bit more snug. Again, make sure the hole is deep enough. 3) If you want the magnet part to be flush, you can start you’re hole with a 1” bit first at a depth of less than a millimeter. Then finish with the 7/8” bit. 4) Look at the door and see where there is the largest gap when placing the sensor. Since most doors sag a bit, the largest gap is usually on the top towards the handle end or the bottom side towards the handle end. And finally, I designated these sensors and sensor group 13 when programming.

Yes, these new DesignLine products from GE are a bit more expensive, but I really appreciate their utility, range, and reliability. I especially like these recessed door sensors. They require that you drill a 7/8 inch hole in the door or window, but once done, will hide the sensor completely from view. No need to worry about the thickness of the door frame in relation to the door. These sensors are small enough to possibly fit in a wooden window, but I couldn't use them on any of my vinyl windows. This sensor uses one nickel sized watch battery, which should last a year or two.
