Video: How to Build a CCTV System How to Build a CCTV System Time: 03:45

At Home Security Store you can build your own CCTV system in 6 Easy Steps. We are the only ones to offer this Selector Software, breaking down the decision making process into simple terms and choices. Of course we have CCTV kits as well from some major brand names, but if you would like a custom system and one that you can build all by yourself, then you've found the right store. No more confusion and no more outrageous prices!

DVR
First, you start by choosing your DVR. Of course DVR stands for digital video recorder. When choosing a DVR you should look at brand name, memory, and the number of channels each DVR has. The number of channels determines the number of cameras allowed. For example, a 4 channel DVR can record up to 4 cameras.

Cameras
When putting together your CCTV systems, there are 3 types of security cameras to choose from within our 6 Easy Step Selector Software - bullet, dome, and spy covert cameras (such as a camera hidden in a fire sprinkler or smoke detector). In addition, Home Security Store sells wireless CCTV cameras and IP cameras.

When selecting a camera you might want to look at the image sensor manufacturer or type. Second, you should look at lens size. The lens size will determine your viewing angle and distance. If you don't want a fixed lens and want the ability to change the viewing angle and distance then look for a camera with a vari-focal lens. Third, there is resolution, which means the clarity of the image. Just like a television set, the higher the resolution, the more clear the picture is. Fourth, you might want to look at the IR or infrared details. If it has IRs, the camera is able to capture images at night.

Cables
The third step in building your own surveillance system at Home Security Store is to simply choose your cables. Here we give you the option to choose cable lengths, which generally is not available in traditional CCTV kits. By choosing cable lengths, be that short or long, you don't waste your time and you don't waste your money!

Monitor
The fourth step is picking a monitor, which is totally optional. Most DVRs have the function to use any VGA capable monitor, but one should look at your DVR options to make sure this applies to your custom built surveillance system. If indeed it does, then you can simply hook your DVR to a computer or TV monitor. Of course, if you want a brand new monitor, we have several to choose from.

Accessories & Power Supply
The fifth step is choosing your accessories such as surveillance stickers, a monitor wall mount, or bracket. And finally the sixth step is choosing the cameras power supply, which is most definitely needed to operate a CCTV system. What's really neat about our Selector Software is that the compatible power supply which works with your chosen cameras is already suggested for you. All you have to do is click the Next Component button.
