Holdup and panic buttons certainly hold an important place in business and home security. For the most part the panic buttons are single-button portable devices that are finger-operated and designed to send an instant signal to the control panel which in turn triggers the alarm. For some models and alarm systems, the alarm can be programmed to trigger silently as this is the case for most holdup buttons which are used in shops and stores.

When it come so business security, holdup buttons are typically mounted under the counter or under the money drawer. When the transmitter is activated, it sends an RF signal to the receiver. The security system control panel in turn then sends a burglary alarm to the central station.

Though most portable panic buttons are made up of single push button devices, some are dual-button activated in which you have to push two buttons at the same time to activate an alarm. This of course makes it harder for someone to accidentally push the button and cause a false alarm.
