Dual Technology Motion Detectors
It’s pretty straight forward - A detector that combines two different types of detector technology is called dual technology. Often, manufacturers of home security detectors will opt to combine the functions of a microwave motion detector with that of an infrared (IR) or heat motion detector. However, there can be other types of detectors or devices that combine with other technologies such as glass break detectors with PIR motion detectors, or even photoelectric detectors with PIR motion detectors (which have pet-immune functions that allow the detector to ignore pets that weigh up to a certain amount). Furthermore, the sensors in dual technology are sophisticatedly combined through a microprocessor for more intelligent protection.
These kinds of dual technology products provide a better level of accuracy and can better decipher between actual intrusions and false alarm sources associated with your home security system. Also, dual technology motion detectors often cost more than typical detectors that utilize just one technology.
Often, infrared technology will be paired not only to reduce false alarms, but to reduce the energy used as well. IR technology uses less energy than microwave detection does, therefore the standard dual technology model will be designed so that when the IR sensor is tripped, it activates the microwave sensor. In turn if the microwave sensor picks up detection, then it sends a signal to the control panel to trigger the alarm and call for help.
Home Security Store has a descent selection of dual technology motion detectors which can work as an easy solution for the most challenging residential or commercial applications.
