Pet Immune Motion Detectors

Technology has brought about better ways than the days of placing masking tape over the lower portion of the motion detector lens to make your motion detector so-called “pet immune”. Today pet immune PIR (passive infra red) motion detectors are the solution, designed so that your pet can move around, yet still trigger the alarm if an object the size of a person is detected.

Here’s How It Works:
With pet immune motion detectors, motion is detected when an infrared source with one temperature (such as a human) passes in front of an infrared source with another temperature (such as a wall). To break it down - all objects emit what is known as black body radiation. This energy is invisible to the human eye but can be detected by certain electronic devices. With pet immune PIR motion detectors, smaller changes in temperature will not register in the same zone as heat produced by humans, therefore if say a 20 pound dog (depending on the PIR sensitivity that is set) passes by, the motion detector will not trigger an indication of intrusion.
